Software releases

The current version of the Adaptive system is version 2.3.

The Adaptive system consists of three parts.

There are decentralized local components which take care of doing all sorts of measurements: network bandwidth and latency, host load, etc. This local component is called Pythia. All sites in a grid that want to make use of the Adaptive system must run the Pythia daemon.

Additionally, there is a central server, which is called Delphoi. There is only one Delphoi needed per grid. The Delphoi server coordinates the measurements between the Pythias, and functions as a contact point for clients that want to use the information that is gathered by the Pythias. The Delphoi server is implemented in Java, and uses sockets for communication.

Finally, we provide the Delphoi web service that supplies the same functionality as the Delphoi server. The web service is optional. The web service is implemented as a client to the Delphoi server. Therefore, if the web service is used, the Delphoi server is also needed.

Installing the server components is needed only on one site in your grid. For GridLab, the Delphoi server is already running on the fs0.das2.cs.vu.nl in Amsterdam.

The Delphoi (central component)

Note: GridLab administrators do *not* need to install Delphoi, you should only install a Pythia.
The Delphoi distribution can be downloaded here:

The archive includes a README.Delpoi that explains the install procedure. An optional web service frontend is included in the archive. To use this frontend, the Sun Java(TM) Web Services Developer Pack is required, which can be downloaded here.

The Pythia (local component)

Note: GridLab administrators do *not* need to install Pythia more that once. The Pythia installations are be kept up-to-date automatically, so manual 'upgrades' are not necessary! The Pythia distribution can be downloaded here:

The archive includes a README.Pythia that explains the install procedure.
