The bread and butter of physical file management consists of creating and deleting physical files. GAT, of
course, allows one to create and delete physical files. GAT does so in a manner which allows users and
application programmers to live in blissful ignorance of the machinations going on under the covers. To the application
programmer and user alike, all the resources to which they have access look like a giant hard drive on which they can
create and delete physical files to their heart's content. It just works, as it should be.
